Sometimes we reach phases in our lives that feel monotonous and unfulfilling - oftentimes called a rut. When we are in a rut our daily lives feel dull and unproductive. So how do we change this? When this happens, it is important to recognize the feeling and acknowledge it. Sometimes we don’t even realize we are in a rut until we are already deep in it. There are quite a few things that we can do when we are beginning to feel or already feel this way. This can include: switching up or changing your routine to make life feel more exciting, spending time with people you care about, or planning something that you can look forward to. In addition, it could also be helpful to create a list of things that make you happy that you can do on a daily basis. It can be as simple as petting an animal or eating a really good snack - just something that makes you feel good. It is also incredibly helpful to engage in a consistent self care routine.

Oftentimes when we are in a rut, we are neglecting our self care, so reengaging in some of those behaviors can not only make us feel good, but help us get out of that rut and allow us to start feeling like ourselves again. It could also be helpful to talk to a trusted person about how you are feeling and what you are experiencing because it is very likely that they have experienced a similar situation. They might have good tips on how to get back on track and get back to enjoying life.
